This Denver 100 video has two main goals. First, we want to see what efficiency we can get from a fully-loaded 2025 Chevy Silverado HD 2500 Trail Boss. Second, we want to try our new Weigh Safe gooseneck ball hitch. This hitch shows us the tongue load of the trailer, and it can save a lot of time when loading equipment. Let’s go!
The Silverado HD 2500 Trail Boss is a new trim that just went on sale several months ago. It’s mainly a cosmetic off-road package that starts with an already capable Z71 model, adds new BFGoodrich KO3 tires, as well as several exterior touches to make the truck stand out. All badges are blacked out. The truck has red tow points in the front. The truck is equipped with a G80 rear auto-locking differential and hill descent control. While it had all of this off-road gear, can it still tow and haul?
Chevrolet rates this truck configuration to tow a maximum of 19,100 lbs with a gooseneck or up to 18,500 lbs with a conventional hitch. We headed over to Denver East Machinery to hook up the trailer and load some construction equipment. In the end, we are towing over 17,500 lbs of trailer. The Weigh-Safe hitch sped up our process and we made sure that we did not exceed the truck’s 3,150 lbs payload capacity.
Next we hit our Denver 100 MPG loop, but this time this loop around Denver, Colorado measures at over 121 miles. We went a long way. We registered 8.9 MPG on this loop. The 6.6L Duramax V8 has plenty of acceleration or passing power with pulling a trailer like this. The engine is rated at 470 hp and 975 lb-ft of torque. The 10-speed hd automatic transmission is smooth, and helps the truck slow down.
This truckl is equipped with a 36 gallon diesel tank. At highway speeds, you could go about 300 miles with a load like this before needing to refuel.
