These three 2024 Ram HD trucks looks & cost the same, but there are stark capability differences between them. Which one is best for you? Let’s dig in.
All three of these trucks are powered by a 6.7-liter Cummins I6 turbo-diesel, but the power ratings are very different.
The Ram 2500 HD cannot be had with a high-output version of the Cummins. It’s a standard-output engine that is rated at 370 hp @ 2,800 rpm and 850 lb-ft of torque @ 1,700 rpm. It’s mated to a 6-speed 68RFE automatic transmission that is better than before, but it does not have a very good reputation.
The Ram 3500 HD with a single rear wheel (SRW) looks the same, but it can be optioned with a high output Cummins with 420 hp @ 2,800 rpm and 1,075 lb-ft of torque @ 1,800 rpm. It’s mated to a 6-speed AISIN automatic transmission. This a heavier transmission that is behind a more powerful engine.
The Ram 4500 HD dually chassis cab looks a bit different. It has wide front fenders and no bed. It’s only available as a chassis cab. The 6.7L Cummins is rated at 360 hp @ 2,800 rpm and 800 lb-ft of torque @ 1,800 rpm. This version of the engine is mated to a 6-speed AISIN transmission.
All three of these trucks have an M.S.R.P. that is around $80,000. Which one is bests for you?
All three of these trucks had a crew cab and 4×4. The Ram 3500 HD SRW has a payload rating that is approximately twice that of a Ram 2500 (4,000 lbs vs 2,100 lbs). The Ram 4500 dually has a payload that is even higher payload (around 6,000 lbs). The Ram 4500 has another advantage. It has a wider front axle that allows for a greater steering angle and more maneuverability.
