Toyota Tacoma and Honda Ridgeline continue to grow their sales in the first half of 2023. All other midsize pickup trucks are way down! What is going on? Most of the models are about -20% down from where they were a year ago. Let’s take a look.
Honda Ridgeline had a very successful first six months of 2023. Honda sold more pickups than Jeep Gladiators, Ford Rangers, or GMC Canyons. The all-new 2023 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon are just getting to market now in larger numbers. This may explain why the GM midsize pickup trucks are down.
It’s difficult to find an explanation as to why Nissan Frontier and the Jeep Gladiator are down. What is crazier – while Nissan Frontier numbers are down -20.9%, they still outsold the Chevy Colorado.

I am expecting the midsize pickup truck sales numbers to recover across the board in the later part of this year and into the next year. The all-new 2024 Ford Ranger and 2024 Toyota Tacoma will go on sale in a few months. We may even get an updated 2024 Jeep Gladiator. We will have to wait and see.
