The refreshed 2024 Chevy Silverado HD gets a second generation of the L5P 6.6-liter turbo-diesel V8. The engine has been updated with the latest fuel injection, combustion, valvetrain, and turbocharger design in order to improve power and emissions. 2024 Chevy Silverado HD
The latest Duramax V8 is rated at 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque. The engine is still mated to the 10-speed Allison-branded heavy-duty automatic transmission and a 3.42-to-1 rear axle ratio. The truck I am testing is a fully-optioned and luxurious High Country trim. The truck is equipped with a 36-gallon fuel tank in this crew cab configuration.
This is a first impromptu test as I combine some city and highway driving on this 70+ mile loop. It was a relatively windy day, and I came away fairly impressive with the refinement and efficiency of this new powertrain.
