Video: Ford Raptor vs Ram TRX vs Toyota Tundra 0-60 MPH Tow-Off: What’s the Quickest Towing Truck?

What’s the quickest towing pickup truck in the land? I compare a traditional new 2022 Toyota Tundra against the high-performance off-road trucks – the Ram TRX and the 3rd-generation Ford F-150 Raptor. Which one can handle the trailer better and show superior towing acceleration? Also, how quick are these trucks just by themselves. Let’s find out!

For this test, I am towing a large 25-foot overland luxury camping trailer – the Black Series HQ19. This trailer weighs about 7,000 lbs.

The all-new Tundra is equipped with a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 with 389 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. It’s mated to a 10-speed automatic and a 3.31 rear axle ratio. This TRD Off-road Tundra model has a curb weight of around 5,800 lbs.

The new Ram TRX is packing a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 with 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. It’s mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and a 3.55 rear axle ratio. This truck has a curb weight of just over 6,400 lbs.

The new 3rd-generation Ford F-150 Raptor is powered by a high-output 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 with 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. It’s mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission and a 4.10 rear axle ratio. This Raptor on 37-inch tires weighs about 6,000 lbs.

The TRX is more powerful, but it also weighs the most. When not towing, I used 4WD or AWD mode in the trucks and Sport mode with traction control disabled. When towing a trailer, I used the tow/haul mode.

Spoiler Alert: here are all the results. All of these accelerations were done at 1-mile above sea level (17% less air density than at sea level.)

With a bit more practice, I could likely get the 2022 Tundra 0-60 MPH times into the high 6-second range. Join the video below for all of the brake-torque-ing 0-60 MPH fun. The Raptor 37 and the TRX were as impressive as always, but the TRX is simply a monster. It accelerates to 60 MPH with a 7,000 lbs trailer just as quick as some common everyday sedans just by themselves.
