It is finally here – the world debut of the 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone! The new Capstone trim level is the most luxurious Tundra model to date. Is this the Lexus of pickup trucks? Let’s dig into all of its features to find out.

2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone

The Capstone is the new flagship of the Tundra lineup. When it comes to market later this year it will be offered only as a crew cab with a 5.5-ft bed. The exterior details are highlighted by chrome inserts and trim. The grille surround is done in body color (Wind Chill Pearl – as you see in these images). The new 22-inch chrome-accented wheels are not to be missed. These are the largest diameter wheels ever fitted to a Tundra from the factory.

Standard power running boards and a bed step make egress a breeze. While this is a very luxurious pickup truck, it is rated at a maximum towing capacity of 10,340 lbs and a maximum payload of 1,485 lbs. These numbers are specific to the Tundra Capstone. These are very respectable numbers, considering it is a fully optioned truck with plush Semi-Aniline leather-trimmed seats, panoramic sunroof, and much more.

This capability is enabled by a standard i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain. It combines a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 and an electric motor for a total of 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque. It’s connected to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The system uses an onboard nickel-metal hydride 1.87 kWh battery that is located underneath the rear seat. Toyota has not yet published official MPG figures for the hybrid powertrain.

On the inside, the driver and passengers are greeted by finely-appointed seats, console, dash, and more. When a door is opened a backlit Capstone logo comes to life on the passenger side of the dashboard. The 14-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia system is front and center. It offers wireless phone integration and a premium 12-speaker JBL stereo system.

The Tundra Capstone is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 (TSS 2.5) suite of driver-assistance technologies. It has Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Departure Alert, and Lane Tracing Assist. The available Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) shocks and rear load-leveling rear air suspension make the ride smooth and easy. The 2022 Tundra’s new chassis and multi-link rear suspension are huge assets when it comes to a comfortable ride and confident steering performance.

We cannot wait to take the new Capstone for a spin. If the interior is as plush and comfortable as it appears in these images – then it may just be the Lexus of pickup trucks.

The Tundra Capstone is coming on sale in spring 2022. Stay tuned to TFLtruck.com for pricing, the online configurator, in-person walkaround, and more.
