Is the Ford F-150 twin-turbo V6 EcoBoost a reliable truck engine? We get a close look at this important subject with these three older F-150 turbocharged trucks on this episode of ‘Dude, I Love or Hate My Ride’ @HomeEdition
The original 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 first came on the scene in the 2011 Ford F-150 nearly 10 years ago. Now, Ford’s lineup of twin-turbocharged engines is by far the most popular engine option in the F-150.

The first truck on the list has a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. The owner, Jason, tows a medium-sized trailer with ATVs and side-by-sides. The truck did give Jason an “engine miss” under acceleration. It turned out to be a spark plug issue that new and properly gapped spark plugs fixed. The oxygen sensor also had to be replaced with less than 60,000 miles on the clock.
Jason says the truck pulls a trailer “like it was not even there”. He is still happy with this truck and will keep it for some time.

The next F-150 truck from Alaska has several modifications including a suspension leveling kit, wheels/tires, Raptor-style side step, air compressor, performance turbo intercooler, exhaust system, and a customized 5-Star engine/transmission tune just to name a few. The truck is an FX4 with a customized look and big towing mirrors.
The truck had a couple of issues. The rear window defrost is no longer working. There was another “rattle on startup” issue that may have been related to an oil filter that went away after switching to higher quality oil filters.

This F-150 twin-turbo has over 170,000 miles. It’s a 2WD with a rear locker and a maximum towing package that lives in Texas. It tows a fully loaded 11,000 lbs camping trailer on occasion. It has a few of modifications: shocks and helper bump-stop spring in the rear to help handle the heavy weights, a performance air intake filter, exhaust, and a tune. The owner, Zach, says the truck has performed well and towed the heavy trailer with authority.
