How Hard Can The 2020 Nissan Titan XD Work? We Tow 10,000 Pounds To Find Out! (Video)

The updated Titan XD is ready for work.

The refreshed 2020 Titan XD is what Nissan calls the ultimate towing package, so we take on a first drive with a heavy trailer to see what’s what. Nissan invited TFLtruck to this first drive opportunity in Mississippi and Louisiana. Nissan also provided the truck and the trailer that they say has a total weight of 10,000 lbs.

Nissan also has a refreshed 2020 Titan 1500 truck, but the Titan XD is simply a bigger truck all around. It’s taller, longer, and heavier. It rides on a unique larger frame. It’s longer because it is a crew cab truck with a 6.5-foot bed. The regular Titan comes in a crew cab configuration with a 5.5-foot bed.

The Titan XD is now only available in a crew cab 4×4 configuration with one engine offering. The engine offering is a 5.6-liter V8 that is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. The power rating is 400 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque on premium fuel.

The maximum towing rating is 11,040 lbs, and the maximum payload is around 2,220 lbs. The gooseneck hitch package is available on most Titan XD trim levels.

The starting price for a Titan XD crew cab 4×4 is just around $44,000. Here is how it break down.

The first drive verdict is that the 2020 Titan XD is still a very stable towing rig just as it was before with great steering feedback and comfortable ride. The towing experience is made better by the new 9-speed automatic transmission that helps you slow down in Tow Mode with crisp and timely downshifts. The acceleration feels good as well. The 9-speed transmission is an improvement.
