2019 Ram 1500 Sport Review: Canada-Only Forbidden Fruit

There are not many vehicle available in Canada that aren’t on sale south of the border, but we have a new pickup to call our own.

The 2019 Ram 1500 Sport came together as a result of a trend noticed by execs at Ram Canada: just about one in four 1500s sold were going out with the Sport Appearance Package, which adds the monochromatic style and kills a lot of the chrome that is standard on many Rams. This styling choice is so prevalent in Canada that Ram decided to design a trim level specially to suit these tastes.

The package consists of a monochromatic exterior available in nine different colors, a black billet grille with black RAM lettering, standard bi-LED headlamps with black bezels, black badging all around, an optional Sport hood, standard 20-inch wheels with 22-inch wheels available and unique Sport badging.

Inside, the truck gets a blacked-out interior with an exclusive combination of trim touches, like satin light black chrome highlights, real metal trim and diamond-plate look pieces on the center stack. Two other unique touches complete the package: a Sport badge on the upper glove box and Canada-exclusive design on both the standard cloth seats or the optional leather seats.

For all our American readers who are in love with this truck, fear not. If you spec a US-market Laramie with the Sport Appearance Package, you basically have this truck, save for the badging, unique seat design and blacked out badges.

Power is delivered from the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 that makes 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque.

In Canada, the 2019 Ram 1500 Sport starts at $52,595 for a Quad Cab 4×2 model. Our test model, fit with just about every option, like a panoramic sunroof, four-corner air suspension, 22-inch wheels, Sport hood, power running boards and more came to a much steeper $74,000 CAD.
