These are the top five upcoming new pickup trucks that we cannot wait to drive! These include everything from the Jeep Wrangler pickup to the next Ford Ranger. Don’t get us wrong. We are very happy about all of the new pickups that came to market over the last few years, but we always want more!

These trucks are not yet official, but we know they are coming over the next 1-2 years. (Note: we are driving the 2017 Chevy Colorado ZR2 next week, so it’s not on this list.)

5. 2019/2020 Jeep Wrangler Pickup (JT)

We know very little about the upcoming Jeep pickup truck. We know that the internal codename is “JT”, and we have seen several spy shots of the JT prototypes. It appears to be based on the upcoming 2018 Jeep Wrangler “JL”. We imagine that it will have the same engine options as the JL: turbocharged four-cylinder, gas V6, and (possibly) a turbo-diesel. However, this is still speculation. It will ride on a stretched Wrangler wheelbase and will be offered as a crew cab with a short bed. Will it compete directly against the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro and the Chevy Colorado ZR2 at off-road prowess? We cannot wait to drive it and find out.

4. 2019 Ram 1500 and Ram HD

Ram is busy working on updates to both the half-ton Ram 1500 and its Ram heavy duty lineups. We have spy images of prototypes from Michigan and Colorado. The half-ton prototypes are showing six-lug wheel hubs and a stretched crew cab. Ram is likely working on updated engines for the 1500 trucks as well. The HD trucks have a front mask to cover a design update. Ram HD are likely to get more torque from the 6.7L Cummins I6 and more technology features that may include a 360-degree camera.

3. 201X Nissan Frontier

The current version of the Nissan Frontier can be traced back to 2004, and some of its components go back even further. While the current Frontier is still a capable pickup that can tow and go off-road, it does need a major upgrade to make it more fuel efficient and more competitive among the field of much newer truck designs. The next Frontier should be unveiled soon (within the next 1-2 years), but we do not know exactly when.

2. 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 & GMC Sierra 1500

I recently spied heavily camouflaged GM pickup truck prototypes testing in Colorado. There is some consensus that these are Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra half-ton trucks that will make their debut in about a year as 2019 models. We have few details about these trucks, but several engine choices are possible (including gas, turbo-diesel, and hybrids).

1. 2019 Ford Ranger

The Ford Ranger was discontinued in United States in 2011. This is one of the most anticipated midsize pickup trucks. There is information that suggests that the next Ranger will go into production in 2018 (built in the United States). If this is true, then it is likely to be a 2019 model. Will it look like the Ford Ranger that is currently available in other countries? What engine options will it have? We do not have any details about this yet.

Bonus: Ram Rebel TRX

Ram unveiled the Rebel TRX concept last year, and truck fans went crazy. It’s understandable, considering that the concept is powered by a detuned Hellcat 6.2L supercharged HEMI V8 good for 575 horsepower. The concept has a unique off-road suspension, and it does not hurt that the V8 sounds amazing. Will the Rebel TRX ever become reality? We do not know for sure, but we think it may happen based on the next generation Ram 1500. That means it will be several years before the TRX could potentially reach production.
