TFLtruck sources have confirmed that the next Toyota Tundra update will include a 39-gallon fuel tank as optional equipment. The Tundra CrewMax 4×4 with the 5.7L iForce V8 is currently rated at 13 MPG city, 17 MPG highway, and 15 combined. The current 26.4 gallon fuel tank provides approximately 390 miles of range if you calculate using the combined rating. If you are running in the city and/or towing a big trailer, then your range will decrease significantly and this has been a complaint.
By comparison, the 2014 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor has a worse 13 MPG combined economy rating, but the available 36-gallon tank allows for around 468 miles of range. Ford’s light-duty pickup currently has the largest factory fuel tank option.
Not to worry – Toyota aims to leapfrog competition with the tank of 39 gallons.
