A new Vauxhall Vivaro is in the works and we have the first press-release sketch. For those of you who don’t know the current and past Vauxhall Vivaro vans, they have been a huge success for Vaxhall. Worldwide sales of the Vauxhall Vivaro are impressive, but there are no Vauxhall Vivaro vans for sale in the United States.
Currently, General Motors has a deal with Nissan to bring their NV200 van to the US market under the name Chevrolet City Express. You can read about the Nissan/GM agreement (here). We expect to see the Chevrolet City Express debut at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show.
The question is: why has General Motors opted for a Nissan van when they build an exceptional one of their own overseas? The simplest answer might be: Nissan has done all of the heavy lifting with the NV200 and it’s cheap for GM to simply slap a few emblems on. It’s pretty expensive to bring a vehicle over here that’s built to comply with European vehicular standards.
Back to the Vaxhall Vivaro. All of the shapes on the outside look much more aerodynamic while providing a more athletic appearance. It’s supposed to have the most modern engines and technology available via GM.
At least the sketch of the Vaxhall Vivaro looks cool.
Photos and specifications will be available soon.
