Ford is calling back over 870,000 pickup trucks thanks to an issue with engine block heaters than can lead to fire.
The problem affects select 2015-2019 F-150 trucks and 2017-2019 Super Duty pickups equipped with engine block heaters. The issue stems from water and other contaminants that can intrude into the heater’s cable splice connector, leading to corrosion and ultimately a possible short circuit.
This will make the block heater itself inoperable while also likely tripping a house breaker.

Ford is aware that three fires have occurred due to this issue, causing no injuries but some property damage.
- Affected vehicles include:
- 2015-19 F-150 vehicles built at Dearborn Truck Plant between March 18, 2014 and Nov. 17, 2018 and at Kansas City Assembly Plant between Aug. 21, 2014 and Nov. 17, 2018
- 2017-19 Super Duty vehicles built at Ohio Assembly Plant between Feb. 5, 2016 and Nov. 17, 2018 and at Kentucky Truck Plant between Oct. 8, 2015 and Nov. 17, 2018
To fix the problem, dealers will inspect the heater cable and replace it if damage or corrosion is spotted. If there is no corrosion dielectric grease will be applied to the connecter.
Of the total amount, 410,289 of the trucks are in the United States and 463,793 are in Canada.
