Are you looking forward to a (possible) Ram ProMaster City Conversion Van? Well, our friends at Danbury Motor Caravans in the UK already have a slick conversion van based on the FIAT Doblo (the Ram ProMaster City’s platform-mate). A Ram ProMaster City Conversion Van could prove to be an economical alternative to the ridiculously expensive RVs that proliferate our market.
A Ram ProMaster City Conversion Van would look a lot like Danbury’s FIAT Doblo Motor Caravan. There are mostly cosmetic differences, but the powertrain is a different story. The three engines available in the UK are the 1.4-liter 95 bhp petrol, 1.6-liter 105 bhp diesel and a 2.0-liter 135 bhp diesel.
The North American Ram ProMaster City Conversion Van would probably have a 2.4-liter “Tigershark” that makes 178 HP
and 174 Lb-ft of torque. It’s front-wheel drive with a nine-speed automatic transmission.
We still do not know the base price of the 2015 Ram ProMaster City; however, based on the Nissan NV200‘s base price of $20,290 and the Ford Transit Connect‘s base price of $22,995 – it’s easy to assume the 2015 Ram Promaster City will cost between $21,000-ish – $23,000-ish. That’s about half of what the FIAT Doblo costs in the UK.
Van conversions like this are expensive and doubling your base van purchase price is an easy way to get an approximation of what it will costs. The price for a well featured Fiat Doblo with the biggest engine in the UK is £25,749. Danbury Motor Caravans’ “Dynamic” conversion starts at £21249.00.
This is a full conversion that (unlike the Nissan NV200 Sussex Campervan) takes away much of the van’s utility. Still, the size and relatively affordable price makes for a compelling RV choice. The question is, will we have something like this available in the United States?
