News: The 2027 Ram ProMaster City Van Is BACK…And It Fits a Hellcat Hemi V8!

It's not imminently *getting* a V8, but you know...there's a fun little fact for you to ponder

The 2027 Ram ProMaster City returns!

It’s been nearly four years since the Ram ProMaster City left the U.S. market. In fact, all five small commercial van manufacturers left. Don’t worry – Ram is bringing the smaller van back with this 2027 Ram ProMaster City. Here are all the details. Let’s dig in!

The ProMaster City is now bigger than ever. It’s moving up a class from where it left off. It’s a midsize commercial van, and Ram says it’s perfect for city jobs.

It has a footprint that is just smaller than a new Toyota Tacoma or a Chevy Colorado. The new ProMaster City has a wheelbase of 129 inches and a total length of 210 inches. It’s under 75 inches tall, so it will fit into all large parking garages and your standard home garage as well. It’s not huge on the outside, but it is large on the inside. The cargo van has a floor length of around 9 feet. The rear door opening is 4 feet wide. Guess what! It can fit a lot of 4×8 sheets of plywood, material, or two standard 4-foot wood pallets.

The ProMaster City is meant to be fairly maneuverable. Ram says it has a turning diameter of 42 feet. This is not a class-leading number for a midsize commercial van. It’s about the same turning radius as that of a new Toyota Tacoma.

It has a payload of just over 2,000 pounds, and a tow rating of around 2,000 pounds as well. It’s better suited for hauling things or people. There are also a 5-person or an 8-person passenger van configurations. Ram says that it has approximately 200 cu-ft of interior cargo volume. Although, the official SAE certification is still pending. Just for comparison, the larger Ram ProMaster has between 259 and 524 cu-ft of cargo volume, depending on wheelbase and roof height configuration.

The new ProMaster City is related to its Stellantis van cousins from overseas. This family includes the Citroen Jumpy, the Fiat Professional Scudo, the Opel Vivaro, the Peugeot Expert, and the Toyota Proace. These midsize vans have a variety of gasoline, diesel, and all-electric powertrains around the world.

The Ram ProMaster City is getting a North American powertrain that is relatively straight forward. It’s a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with a rating of 166 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. It’s mated to a North American specific 8-speed automatic transmission. It’s front-wheel-drive only. That’s it. Will there be other powertrain options in the future? We don’t know at this time.

Ram will offer two trim levels of the ProMaster City with up to six exterior color choices. The trims include the base Tradesman and a more upscale SLT. These trims will be offered for both the cargo van and passenger van variants. Ram estimates that about 75% of the sales volume will be the more price conscience Tradesman model. Most of these are meant for fleet customers, but Ram will sell you a ProMaster City for private use if you want.

Naturally, fleet customers love to talk about the Total Cost of Ownership. Ram thought about this carefully. It’s also about the uptime and safety. They include a standard rear camera mirror, larger side mirrors, and collision mitigation technologies.

Ram says the starting price for the new 2027 ProMaster City will be under $40,000 when they go on sale in the Q1 of 2027. Production will begin in Q4 of 2026 at the factory in Turkey.
