Which new heavy-duty diesel pickup truck is the quickest to accelerate with a trailer? We find out by drag racing the newest 2025 Ram HD Cummins versus the Ford SD Power Stroke versus the Chevy HD Duramax. Let’s go!
We love to have fun with pickup trucks. Now, we are drag racing the latest turbo-diesel trucks with trailers hooked up to them. The Ram HD Cummins is new for this year. We must see how it stacks up against the best from General Motors and Ford.
We brought these pickup trucks to this towing and unladen 1/4-mile drag race:
- 2025 Ram HD 2500 Laramie Sport
- 2025 Chevy Silverado HD 2500 Trail Boss
- 2024 Ford F-250 Tremor Lariat H.O.
The Ram is packing the newly updated 430 hp 6.7L Cummins I6 that produces 1,075 lb-ft of torque. It’s backed up by a new 8-speed ZF automatic transmission and a 3.42-to-1 rear axle ratio.
The Chevy is powered by the 6.6L Duramax V8 with 470 hp and 975 lb-ft of torque. It’s backed up by a 10-speed Allison-branded automatic transmission and a 3.42-to-1 rear axle ratio.
The Ford has a high-output 6.7L Power Stroke V8 with 500 hp and 1,200 lb-ft of torque. It’s backed up by Ford’s 10-speed automatic transmission and a 3.55-to-1 rear axle ratio.
We run several towing and unladen 1/4-mile drag races and 0-60 mph runs. Kase and I cannot agree on which truck won. The Dragy GPS device says that the Duramax V8 had the quickest 1/4-mile time with a trailer, but the Ford crossed the line first.
