Why is the Chevy Tahoe so popular? Jen and I take a look at and drive this 2025 Tahoe RST with the new Duramax 3.0L turbo-diesel I6 engine. This sporty-looking RST is rolling on 24s. Let’s dig in!

The Tahoe and Suburban lineup have been redesigned for the 2025 model year. These full-size SUVs have a new look up front, and an updated interior. This RST hides a couple surprises. First, it’s powered by a new 3.0L turbo-diesel inline-6 engine with 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque. This engine is really great for a long commute and road trips. It’s rated at 24 MPG, but we have seen many people get close to 30 MPG on the highway with this engine. Second, we are surprised that this premium RST model does not include GM’s hands free SuperCruise driver assistance system. Many other versions of the Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade offer SuperCruise, but not this RST model. We have tested all available driver assistance systems and we rate GM’s SuperCruise at the top.

We already knew that the Tahoe Z71 also does not offer the SuperCruise system because of its high clearance off-road bumper. This Tahoe RST has a standard bumper.

We were initially concerned about a harsher ride with these large 24-inch wheels on this Tahoe RST. However, GM sorted it with an updated air ride suspension with MagneRide dampers. It’s comfortable on most road surfaces we drove it on.

This 2025 Chevy Tahoe RST has a sticker price of $82,930 (including a $1,995 destination charge). This is a steep price, but the Tahoe and new Suburban are still very popular new vehicles.

This popularity comes thanks to a very spacious interior, several engine options, name recognition, and brand loyalty. This Duramax can also be very efficient on a longer trip.
