What happens when you factory-tune your brand-new 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor? How much quicker is it at 0-60 MPH and in a 1/4-mile drag race? What is the tuning process like? You can do it on your own or at a dealership. We find out everything about it in this video. Let’s dig in!
Ford is offering performance boost factory tunes for many of their pickup trucks and SUVs. Currently, the Ford Bronco, Bronco Raptor, Ranger Raptor, and F-150 Raptor can be Ford Performance tuned. Ford also used to offer this on older 2021+ Ranger pickup trucks.
Ford says that this performance engine calibration adds 50 horsepower and 106 lb-ft of torque for a total of 455 hp and 536 lb-ft of torque. The Ranger Raptor is a hefty little pickup. We weighed our truck at close to 5,400 lbs of curb weight with a full tank of fuel. The extra power is always welcome.
Tuning the truck took some doing with a Windows computer, but we got it done after a couple of tries. Loading the tune into the truck is much simpler. It took us about 5-6 minutes to load the new calibration.
The result is a repeatable performance increase of around 0.5 seconds over the 1/4-mile and 0.5 seconds in a 0-60 MPH. We are testing in Fort Collins, Colorado at an elevation of around 1-mile above sea level. This is a sizable improvement, but the performance gain is not obvious by the seat of your pants.
The Ford Performance tune costs $825 to buy. You can your Ford dealership load the tune for you at an additional cost. It comes with a manufacturer warranty, but this tune is not available in California.
