The new 2024 Ford F-150 Raptor R is more than just a small 20 horsepower increase for the already stellar supercharged 5.2L Predator V8. The truck gets a new FOX dual live-valve damper system, updated styling, and new steering components. Is this the best Raptor ever?
It would pretty easy and lazy to call the newest Raptor the best, but it’s not unheard of manufacturers enhancing an existing vehicle to the point of making it worse in some way. This did not happen here. The Ford Performance team set a goal to create an even more capable and quicker F-150 Raptor. My first drive was limited on time, but I drove it at over 70 MPH on Johnson Valley desert race course trails. It is very impressive at swallowing rough desert terrain. It is also one of the more comfortable Raptor trucks when driving on the highway or in town. This is in larger part helped by the new FOX Live dampers. They have active adjustments for compression and rebound.
Not every Raptor owner will drive off-road, but all Raptor drivers have to drive on roads and highways. This truck is a bit more comfortable than every other Raptor truck that we have owned and driven.
TFLtruck has owned a 1st gen. 2014 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor crew cab 6.2L V8 for three years and over 50,000 miles. We have owned a 2nd gen. 2020 F-150 Raptor crew cab for about a year, and we have owned a 3rd gen. 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R.
