“I hear the storm is coming.”
Ram posted a 15-second video clip Monday, with that single sentence teasing its next major truck reveal. With the new 2025 Ram 1500 lineup almost in full swing, it’s a virtual certainty what’s hiding under the camouflage: the new RHO.
What exactly is “RHO”, you ask? If you didn’t catch the news late last year, here’s a quick primer. Essentially, we’re looking at a new flagship performance model as far as this truck’s position in the lineup (at least for now), just with a different moniker. The RHO swaps the old 6.2-liter Supercharged Hellcat V8 engine for a higher-output version of Stellantis’ new 3.0-liter, inline-six motor. To that, the new truck still has a widebody stance as well as beefier suspension over the “normal” trucks. Ram also plans to retune the TRX’s suspension setup to accommodate the lighter six-pot engine.
It’s unclear at the moment whether the TRX will inevitably return, although that is one reason for the RHO nameplate. As far as we know, this truck will see the same high-output version of the new “Hurricane” engine as higher-end 2025 Ram 1500 models. So, it will put out at least 540 horsepower and 521 lb-ft of torque, or perhaps a bit more if Ram does plan to tweak it for a performance application. Those figures look promising against the 3.5-liter EcoBoost-powered Ford F-150 Raptor, but they fall way short of the old TRX. If and when Ram decides to revive that name, we’ll probably see it return with even more power than the old truck and the 720-horsepower F-150 Raptor R, but the company is keeping those details under wraps for the time being.
At any rate, it appears we’ll know much more about the 2025 Ram 1500 RHO in a little over a week. Mark your calendar for April 25 to see the full reveal! In the meantime, check out Ram’s short teaser below:
