The new 6.6L gas V8 engine came out in the Chevy Silverado HD pickup trucks in 2020, but this engine is now paired with a highly regarded 10-speed Allison-branded HD automatic transmission. Does it make the truck that much better or is it about the same? Let’s dig in and find out.
Roman and I take a close look at this 2024 Chevy Silverado HD 2500 LT 4×4 pickup. It’s a simple two-door regular cab configuration that comes with an 8-foot bed. This LT trim gets a refreshed interior and technology as well.
The gasoline engine still makes 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque, but the 10-speed automatic transforms it. The transmission shifts smoothly. It has all the gear ratios that this engine was missing before. It wakes a truck that was otherwise a little slowish previously.
