Based on popular demand, the upcoming 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X off-road model is getting the latest 3.0L Duramax I6 turbo-diesel engine. The Sierra 1500 AT4X is the most off-road capable internal combustion pickup truck that GMC is currently offering from the factory. The AT4X has been available solely with a 6.2L gas V8 engine. GMC is adding the new LZ0 3.0-liter Duramax I6 turbo-diesel to the lineup just like the new 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 ZR2 (that was recently announced).
This is definitely a welcomed addition to the lineup. Many people showed interest in a turbo-diesel-powered off-road pickup truck, and GM found a way to make it happen.
By the way, the latest 3.0L Duramax I6 engine is rated at 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque. It’s mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. GMC says about 20% of Sierra 1500 customers currently choose the Duramax turbo-diesel.
The other 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 model years changes include the following. The new Active Exhaust system for the 6.2L V8 engine. It will offer different sound levels and characteristics in the 2024 Sierra 1500 when the driver selects Normal, Tow/Haul, or Sport modes.
