United States pickup truck sales are generally up in February 2023. The aging current generation of the Toyota Tacoma is still increasing in sales and still winning the sales game. Although we do not have the sales numbers for Chevy Colorado or the Nissan Frontier, it’s fairly safe to assume that they have not taken the sales lead from the popular Tacoma.
The Honda Ridgeline and Ford Maverick nearly doubled their sales when compared to February 2022. The Ridgeline is still outselling the current Ford Ranger by a significant margin.
This space is quickly heating as the first all-new 2023 Chevy Colorado pickup trucks are being shipped to dealers for delivery. We do not have confirmation on the all-new 2023 GMC Canyon shipments yet, but they are not far behind. The new Colorado will take some time to build up volume, but it may eat away at the overall Tacoma sales.
Rumor has it that the new 2024 Ford Ranger will begin production this summer with deliveries in the fall of 2023. Also, the all-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma is not far away.
General Motors, Nissan, and Jeep have not reported sales numbers for February. Most companies are reporting sales on a quarterly basis.

Let’s take a look at the compact pickup truck segment as well. The Ford Maverick continues huge sales gains. The Maverick and the Hyundai Santa Cruz just came on sale just over a year ago. Now, these two have established their own corner of the market for themselves. They remain unchecked by Toyota, GM, Stellantis, Nissan, and others.
The Ford Maverick outsold the Ranger this calendar year by about 16,000 pickups.
