Ram Revolution battery-electric pickup truck concept is here, and we have all the details for you right. I hope you are sitting down because this concept truck brings many segment-first features and technologies. While this is a concept truck, Ram says that a production-ready version of the Ram 1500 Revolution will be shown in just a few short months.
Ram Revolution
This all-new electric pickup truck rides on the company’s new STLA Frame architecture. This is a frame-based pickup truck, much like the Ford F-150 Lightning. However, the Revolution does not share any bed, cab, or interior components with the existing Ram 1500 that is on sale now. The new Ram Revolution uses a four-corner independent suspension with two electric motors. One motor in the front and one in the rear. This enables AWD/4×4 capability.
Electric Architecture
Ram says the Revolution is using an 800-volt electrical architecture that allows it to fast charge at up to 350 kW. This is matching the current quickest-charging electric vehicle – the GMC Hummer EV Truck. Ram says the Revolution will be able to gain 100 miles of driving range in about 10 minutes. This is also the promise that GM gives for the upcoming Silverado EV and Sierra EV pickups.
Ram also introduces a new “Ram Charger” – an inductive robot charger for easy home charging. This robot (that looks like a large Roomba vacuum) will be able to automatically sense the truck’s presence and charging needs, move into position under the truck, align itself and start charging.
Ram did not provide a driving range estimate, battery size, or the truck’s power output at this time. We presume this is coming when we see the production version of the truck in a few months.
Side note: Ram originally said the their electric pickup truck will have up to 500 miles of range, but they did not provide details about how they will achieve it.
Cargo Capability
The Ram Revolution concept features a powered tailgate, a midgate, and a small opening that connects the main cabin of the truck to the frunk (front trunk). Ram says that an 18-foot-long object can be stored inside the truck with the frunk and tailgate closed. If you want to carry those long pieces of lumber or pipe inside your truck – this is for you. Yes, the Silverado EV and Sierra EV also offer a midgate for hauling longer items, but the GM trucks do not offer a way to extend the floor space into the trunk. This pass-through concept was first introduced by Bollinger on their B1 and B2 EV concept trucks. Bollinger did receive a patent for the passthrough idea in 2020.
Cabin & Interior
The Revolution concept has a cabin that is about four inches longer that a traditional Ram pickup truck. The bed length is about the same as the current truck. The concept features suicide-style doors and a cabin entrance without a b-pillar. We still do not know if Ram will be able to take this door design to production.
Technology
Get ready for this… This will take a bit to explain. The Revolution concept is packed with mind-bending technology features.
- Dual 14.2-inch center displays and the lower one is a removable tablet
- Collapsable steering wheel
- Cabin Modes: productivity mode, social mode, party mode, relax mode, and user-defined modes
- Augmented Reality HUD
- Exterior projector
- AI Assistance with a 3D Ram avatar that acts as the vehicle’s face
- Shadow mode: the driver initiates it while outside the truck and the truck follows at a slow speed as the driver is walking ahead
