What is the real story behind the upcoming Ram 1500 EV pickup truck and the Ram Revolution truck? Let’s set the record straight.

Ram spokesperson says the following (as of Aug 17, 2022):

We have never commented on [Ram 1500 EV truck] range.

We have not specified model years for the production EVs. We have said we will deliver a Ram ProMaster BEV in 2023, and a Ram 1500 BEV in 2024, we will have electrified solutions for the majority of our segments by 2025 and all of our segments by 2030.

I admit that TFLtruck has previously referred to the upcoming EV Ram pickup truck as a 2024 model. This is not technically correct as of right now. A more correct way to say it is – a Ram 1500 Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) is coming in 2024.

Ram has NOT officially announced or commented on:

  • starting price for the production Ram 1500 BEV
  • horsepower & torque
  • available features & capability

This means that if you hear people say: “the upcoming Ram EV truck will have a driving range between 500-700 miles” or “Ram EV truck will have a starting price of around $45,000” – these are all unsubstantiated rumors or fake news.

Here is what we learned in July 2021 at the Stellantis “EV Day”.

The upcoming Ram electric pickup truck will be built on a new ‘STLA Frame’ architecture. This architecture will support battery sizes from 159 kWh to over 200 kWh. The STLA Frame architecture will be able to support up to a 500-mile driving range. Stellantis and Ram also referred to a 150 kW charging speed during their 2021 EV Day.

While having up to a 500-mile driving range for an electric pickup truck is mighty impressive, the 150 kW charging speed is nothing to get excited about. The current 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning can support a maximum charging speed of close to 170 kW, according to our real-world testing.

Ram also said that their upcoming EV pickup truck would offer “onboard power” and a “paradigm breaker” technology. While this is still not officially confirmed, there are published reports that Ram EV pickup will offer a “range extender” option. This may just be the paradigm breaker they referred to in July 2021.

These are all of the significant pieces of Ram EV truck information we know so far. If you have any other confirmed information, please let us know in the comments below.
