General Motors is making its OnStar and Connected Services 3-year plan mandatory on many of its premium and basic 2023 models including the 2023 Cadillac Escalade, Buick models, and GMC models. This is a 3-year OnStar subscription plan that will cost new customers an average of $1,500 per vehicle no matter if you plan to use these services or not. Take a look at the screenshot below.
This service used to have either a free trial period, an optional monthly subscription fee, or a related monthly data subscription fee. Now, many 2023 models are getting a mandatory 3-year charge that works out to about $41.66 per month.
The new GMC configurator site does not currently require the $1,500 OnStar package for all Sierra 1500 configurations. However, it’s not clear which vehicles will have the mandatory OnStar service and which will not. It’s also not clear what happens after the initial 3-year term. We will follow this story closely and let you know about the latest developments.
According to The Drive, GM latest official statement on this matter is as follows: “the plan is being offered on new Buick, GMC, and Cadillac Escalades at this time.“
Here is a first-drive review of the new 2023 Cadillac Escalade V that’s packing a supercharged V8.
