Report: 2022 Ford Lightning Bait and Switch? A Dealer Is Still Charging a Markup

This is after a warning to cut dealer allocations.

Here is a new report of a dealer charging a $10,000 markup on a new 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning confirmed order – AFTER an order was approved. This is also after Ford warned dealers that vehicle allocations can be cut if markups occur.

David G. writes:

“On 5/19/21 I reserved the Lightning. Afterward, I visited my preferred dealer – Northside Ford in San Antonio, TX. I was told they don’t markup over MSRP and only add a $1,500 protection package which is fine. In January 2022, I inquired to the dealer about my spot on the reservation list and they informed me that I’m #6 and would get an email from Ford when it’s time to order. Again, no mention of markup.”

“On 2/3/22 I got my wave 3 invitation to order. I chose my Lariat Lightning and at the checkout, I made my additional $500 order deposit for the price of $80,559. During the order, there is a section where dealers can add markup for the Lightning. Mine showed $0, so I was happy they kept their word. On the forums, folks are showing $20k-$30k markup, and if that’s the case before ordering you can ask Ford to move your reservation.”

“I submitted my order and the next morning the dealer accepted the order. A few hours later the dealer called and said there will be $10,000 added to the price. This comes AFTER they accepted my order. I called corporate and since the order is submitted the dealer owns that order and allocation. Northside left off the markup during the order process to get guaranteed units. It wasn’t until after they secured the guaranteed order they added it and now I’m out a Lightning. I’m not paying the additional $10,000.”
