Winnebago revealed their new e-RV Concept in Florida Tuesday.

Adventurous folks have been strongly gravitating toward van life, and this one aims to hit that spot without the aid of internal combustion. Meet the first electric motorhome concept (at least from a large-scale RV manufacturer), based on the chassis from a Ford Transit, that Winnebago just unveiled at the Florida RV Super Show. To be clear, this is not based on the 2022 e-Transit, but instead uses the standard Transit 350HD cargo van with a drivetrain and electrical system from upfitters Lightning eMotors.

Headline features for the Winnebago e-RV Concept include an 86-kWh battery configuration, with Winnebago claiming DC fast-charging times around 45 minutes. While powering all the onboard systems, the company says the van will go 125 miles on a single charge, which is roughly equivalent to Ford’s own e-Transit. Road trippers may balk at that relatively low figure, but Winnebago insists that will meet the needs of 54% of new RV owners, who prefer trips under 200 miles.

As you’d expect from any other purpose-built motorhome, the e-RV Concept integrates a marine-grade refrigerator, slide-out induction cooktop, matte black sink figures, a bathroom with a detachable handheld showerhead, and even local Wi-Fi connectivity. A 350-volt DC power system powers the onboard water heater and roof-mounted HVAC unit, while the cooktop and fridge operate on either 110-volt AC or 12-volt DC power.

Since this is just a concept, Winnebago has not announced official pricing for the e-RV concept just yet. According to Lightning eMotors’ specs on the Transit, owners can expect a 5-year/60,000-mile warranty for the electric drivetrain, on top of Ford’s standard warranty for base chassis components.

Assuming this concept makes it to production, we should get more detailed information in the coming months. Stay tuned!
