Check it out! Could this be an all-new 2023 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro prototype? Yes, we think so. These images come to us courtesy of Kirk Kreifels and his viewer. This prototype was seen driving near Toyota’s North American headquarters in Plano, Texas. Why do we think this is the next generation Sequoia? Here are all the details.
2023 Toyota Sequoia
Just like its sibling the Toyota Tundra, the current Sequoia is very long in the tooth. The current generation of Toyota’s full-size SUV was last redesigned in 2008. Rumor has it that the next Sequoia will be based on the same TNGA-F frame-based platform that now underpins the all-new 2022 Tundra. The next Sequoia will be built at Toyota’s San Antonio, Texas manufacturing facility along with the new Tundra.
This particular prototype is heavily camouflaged, but the overall shape is about the size of the current Sequoia. This may be the TRD Pro off-road trim of the Sequoia because of its wheel design and the dual exhaust outlet. The twin exhaust pipes are coming out on the driver’s side of the SUV. The new 2022 Tundra TRD Pro has twin exhaust outlets on the same side. The side mirror design also appears to be very similar to the new 2022 Tundra.
Since we do not have any official 2023 Sequoia images or teasers, here is a recent rendering by Nicholas D’Asti.
While the final new Sequoia styling may not be as similar to that of the new Tundra as the renderings suggest, the powertrains and suspension design should be. The 2023 Sequoia is expected to be powered by the same choice of two twin-turbo V6 engines as the new Tundra.
- 3.5L TT V6 : 389 hp / 479 lb-ft of torque & 10-speed auto
- 3.5L TT V6 Hybrid: 437 hp / 583 lb-ft of torque & 10-speed auto
The Sequoia suspension options and trim levels may be very similar to the 2022 Tundra. The suspension options should include standard, Bilstein, Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS), or FOX shocks depending on the model and configuration. The Sequoia may also come in: SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, TRD Pro, and 1794 Edition trims.
