The following Mopar Insider report suggests that the upcoming all-new 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer will offer a plug-in hybrid (4xe) powertrain, and an ultra-luxurious interior to rival anything that the latest Cadillac Escalade or the Lincoln Navigator has to offer.
2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer
First, let’s address something obvious. Until now we have been reporting the upcoming Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer as 2021 models. This latest Mopar Insider report lists it as a 2022 model. How come? One of the main reasons is that FCA and Jeep have been super secretive about the new full-size SUV models. The company officially announced that these new vehicles are coming, but that’s all we officially know. We are not certain when we might see a concept or a pre-production model. We have no idea what these SUVs will officially look like. For now, we must rely on the unofficial insider reports – such as this one. Perhaps, the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are being delayed – hence the 2022 designation. Perhaps, they were also designated 2022, but we didn’t know.
Plug-in Hybrid
This report sheds some new and interesting light on Jeep’s upcoming “4xe” electric hybrid powertrain. This has also been shrouded in mystery. The word is we were supposed to see and drive a gas/electric Jeep Wrangler 4xe in April 2020 at the Easter Jeep Safari. However, the virus put an end to this event. The report says the Jeep Grand Wagoneer will offer the plug-in gas/electric powertrain with an all-electric range of up to 30 miles. The gasoline engine will take over and take the big SUV the rest of the way.
Ultra-Luxurious Interior
Before we move on the interior rumors, let’s define what the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer actually are. They are presumed to share the truck platform from the latest Ram 1500 (DT generation). Hence, they are the direct competitors to the Chevy Tahoe and the Ford Expedition (among others). The new base Jeep Wagoneer could go up against the Chevy Tahoe, while the base Grand Wagoneer could compete against the Chevy Suburban.
This insider report suggests that the 2020 Grand Wagoneer would also compete on the luxury segment with a high-end interior and advanced features. There is talk of the 12-inch infotainment screen (similar to Ram truck’s). There is talk of the most intricate combination of leather, wood, and metal trim. Judging by the latest Ram 1500 and Ram HD interiors, FCA is certainly capable of moving and raising the bar on luxurious interiors. We just hope that we get to see the new large SUVs from FCA soon.
