2020 vs 2019 Ford Super Duty F-250 7.3L V8: These Are The Top 5 Unexpected Changes (Video)

It's much more than just the engine and transmission.

The new 2020 Ford Super Duty F-250 has more changes when compared to the 2019 truck than you may initially think. It’s not all just about the new 7.3-liter gas V8 engine and the 10-speed automatic transmission.

2020 Ford Super Duty

The 2020 truck has an updated look, although you may not see from far away. The shape of the grille and headlights has changed to make the front just a little less square.

Underneath is a larger chin spoiler that reaches lower to the ground. That’s the case even on the 4×4 red truck you see here.

Overall, the 2020 Ford F-250 is a little lower than the 2019 truck. Ford lowered the suspension just a bit, and only did it on the F-250 trucks. It is a little easier to get into when compared to the F-250 4×4. That is especially evident on the red 2020 XLT truck you see here that does not have side steps.

The 2020 Super Duty trucks now come with a lineup of four (4) powertrain options.

They are:

  • 6.2-liter gas V8 with a 6-speed automatic
  • 6.2-liter gas V8 with a 10-speed automatic
  • 7.3-liter gas V8 with a 10-speed automatic (all-new)
  • 6.7-liter diesel V8 with a 10-speed automatic (updated 3rd-gen)

The 6.2-liter V8 remains practically unchanged. The new 7.3-liter V8 is all new. It has a factory rating of 430 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque. The updated 3rd-generation 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbo-diesel V8 gets a power boost to 475 hp and 1,050 lb-ft of torque. The heavy duty 10-speed automatic transmission is all-new as well.

The 2020 Super Duty also gets an electric steering assist (or overlay). This allows the truck to control the steering automatically when required. For example, it now has Ford’s Trailer Backup Assist steering feature just like the on in the F-150 and the Ford Expedition.
