Shifting Load to Fix Trailer Sway – Behind the Scenes of the Ike Gauntlet (Video)

We were on our way to run the Super Ike Gauntlet with the 2017 Ram 2500 HD Tradesman 2WD. “Super” Ike Gauntlet is when we max out every truck on payload and/or towing capacity. In this case, we are maxing out this Ram 2500 Tradesman with approximately 2,400 lbs payload and a 11,900 lbs trailer.

On our way to the truck scales to get the precise weight and weight distribution, the trailer started to sway. We used the GenY Hitch weight distribution hitch to help control the sway, but it quickly became clear that we needed to better balance the load on the trailer to gain control and be able to safely tow at highway speed. Fortunately, we were towing Mr.Truck’s Ford F-250 and it was relatively easy to move it forward on the trailer, add tongue weight, and eliminate trailer sway.

Check out the video to get all the details, and stay tuned for the Super Ike Gauntlet video that will come later.
