Is this the 2017 Chevy Colorado ZR2 prototype hiding under the covers? We surely think so. We did not catch it without driving around this time, but a quick look at the wide fender flares, the added height, and the wheels with GoodYear Wrangler tires point in the direction of the ZR2.

The ZR2 is highly anticipated by off-road truck enthusiasts everywhere. It takes the Colorado Z71 truck to new heights with increased ride height, off-road focused suspension tuning, unique front bumper that provides improved approach angle, and GoodYear Wrangler tires. We don’t know all the final specifications or price for the upcoming ZR2 at this time. However, all signs and the leftover mud on this prototype in the Rocky Mountains point in the direction of a very capable off-road pickup truck. We are excited to put the ZR2 up against the 2017 Toyota TRD Pro in our next off-road challenge.

We anticipate the Colorado ZR2 to make its world debut at the 2016 LA Auto Show, and TFLtruck will be there to bring you the video and all the details.

The pickup prototype was not the only one testing in this group. There were many GMC Savana commercial vans, Chevy Camaros, Cadillac ATS, CTS, and CT6 prototypes as well. Why test so many different vehicles? It’s possible that all of them are receiving new power or drive train components.

Check the video with all the GM test prototypes here.
