2015 GMC Canyon

The 2015 GMC Canyon and Chevy Colorado have a maximum tow rating of 7,000 lbs when equipped with the towing package and the 3.6L V6 engine. There is no manual transmission option on GM’s V6 trucks, it’s only available with 2WD and the four-cylinder motor. All other configurations are using the 6-speed automatic transmission.

The V6 has direct injection and variable valve timing for a total of  306 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. GMC provided 4,500 lbs of boat and tandem axle trailer as the heaviest load to tow during the first drive in and around San Diego. This specific trailer was equipped with surge brake system, which is mechanically activated when the hitch ball pushes on the hydraulic piston/actuator during deceleration. There was approximately 450 lbs of tongue weight pushing down on the Canyon.

Some of the things to watch out for are the ride quality of the truck when loaded or empty. Does the truck transfer trailer motion to the cabin, or is the ride and handling mostly unaffected? Does the truck have enough power to accelerate and (more importantly) sufficient braking performance to stop.

Get all the details on the 2015 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon.

Watch the video for first GMC Canyon towing impressions from Nathan and Roman. The guys were not able to do a full towing evaluation around San Diego. TFLtruck is working to get these truck to Colorado, so that we can do a complete evaluation, including the Ike Gauntlet extreme towing test.
