‘The Fast Lane Truck’ team was on the location in Detroit at the unveil of the 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor Sport Truck.  The Tremor is focused on sporty performance.  It’s a short wheel-base regular cab F-150.  It’s got the 4.10 rear axle gears, electronic locking differential, and a console mounted shifter.  There is FX Appearance Package on the outside and red seat piping on the inside.

The 3.5-liter turbo V6 still makes 365 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque.  It will be available in 2WD and 4WD options.  This truck will not sacrifice any payload or towing ability.  Ford says that it will go into production in October/November of 2013 and be on sale “in the fourth quarter”.  Exact performance numbers and pricing are not yet known but Ford hints that 0-60 mph will be dispatched “in the mid 6s”.

Off-Road: 2013 GMC Sierra Denali Snowy & Muddy Off-Road Review

2013 gmc sierra denali off-road

The 2013 GMC Sierra Denali is the top of the line GMC pickup truck.

It comes with almost every creature comfort found on high end luxury sedans including heated seats and a heated steering wheel and all-wheel-drive.

So naturally we were curios how the Denali would do with AWD off-road.

In another fun and informative TFLcar video we take the 2013 GMC Sierra Denali on our standard off-road trail to determine if an AWD pickup is as capable as a 4X4 pickup in the snow, mud and rocky terrain of the Colorado Rocky Mountains.

Editor’s note: Regarding the AWD system, this is what GM said, ”

CONFIDENCE ON DEMAND

Sierra Denali is available with electronic All Wheel Drive that helps detect wheel slippage and, in a fraction of a second, responds by sending power to both the front and rear wheels to help enhance traction. What’s more, Sierra Denali’s front suspension is coil-over-shock – as opposed to torsion-bar suspension designs – delivering improved ride quality and handling.”

Not much technical information there. but check this out, ”

EATON® AUTOMATIC LOCKING REAR DIFFERENTIAL

No other competitor in its class offers a standard fully automatic locking rear differential for on or off-road use:

  • Delivers added traction in driving and wheel-slip situations
  • Senses a difference in speed between left and right rear wheels
  • Locks to turn both wheels in unison” – – GMC.com

So, we know that they are very proud of their rear end. Yay!

Tow Test: 2013 Ram 1500 Crew SXT takes a Boat for 0-60 MPH

2013 ram 1500 crew cab sxt v6 towing boat

The new 2013 Ram 1500 ST Crew Cab is a big, and beefy pickup built to haul a bed full of stuff and up to six people.  This 3.6 liter V6 equipped Ram 4×4 is rated at a maximum 6,300 lbs of towing capacity.

But what does that mean in the real world where the tires hit the road.  This is why we hitched up 5,740 lbs worth of Tige ski boat and trailer and took it for a 0-60 MPH run.  Of course, we are doing this test at a mile above sea level.

How did the big 2013 Ram 1500 do? Check out the following video to find out.

BTW: Watch and read a review more boat trailer Tow Tests.

Throwback Thursday: 2011 Toyota Tacoma TX Pro TRD – Colorado Off-Road

2011 toyota tacoma TX pro

Can you teach an old pick-up a new trick…or in other words, can the 2011 Toyota Tacoma TX Pro TRD pick-up truck take on the Colorado Rockies?

The Toyota Tacoma has been around a long time.

Toyota has not really changed the pick-up in any significant way for over a dozen years.

Sure Toyota has tweaked the looks and the two engine choices back in 2011, but at the core the Tacoma has not changed. Many people would say why mess with success.

For 2011, Tacoma received a TX Pro and TRD (Toyota Racing development) package.   When you look under the covers, it has such goodies as: off-road tuned suspension, 18 inch wheels and specific off-road worthy BF Goodrich tires, as well as a locking rear differential.

So do all of these extra rugged components make the Tacoma the Jeep of the pickup world?  Take a look at this “Throwback Thursday” TFL video to find out.
