The new 2028 Ford UEV pickup truck could actually be significantly shorter than the current Ford Maverick. Whoa! Could this be true? Let’s dig in!
We are eager to learn more about Ford’s upcoming new UEV pickup truck. This vehicle does not yet have an official name, but many people are referring to it as the new Ranchero.
Our friends at the Autopian.com already performed many detailed calculations and estimations, but we have a new image and a bit of new analysis. This new analysis is based on one fact from the Autopian.com They have a clear picture of the prototype’s tire size. It’s 245/50R20 on the prototype that was spied in California. This means at least on these test vehicles is riding on a 20-inch wheel that is wrapped by a tire that is 29.6 inches in diameter and 9.6 inches wide (if the tire had no weight load on it).
Now we can do image pixel ratio analysis, using Google’s Gemini 1.5 Pro AI. Prototype image analysis suggests the following. Here are the screenshots from Gemini analysis.
This Prototype’s Length Estimation

I tried several images and several pixel/ratio analysis. The estimation converged on this new UEV pickup truck prototype having a 121-inch wheelbase with a 181-inch overall length. The wheelbase is almost identical to that of the current Ford Maverick pickup. (Side note: the current Ford Ranger crew cab has a wheelbase of 128.7 inches.)
The 181-inch length is approximately 18 inches shorter than that of a Ford Maverick. This makes sense since this is an electric vehicle. The relatively long wheelbase is necessary to house the battery. It should also provide stability. The short front overhang is typical for an electric vehicle and it would it easier to maneuver and park. The rear overhang is longer because it needs to accommodate the pickup bed. If this electric pickup has a midgate, this would greatly improve this pickup’s utility by allowing it to carry longer items.
You know which over vehicle has an overall length of around 181 inches? It’s the new Toyota RAV4. The RAV4 is the most popular vehicle on sale in the United States.
This Prototype’s Width Estimation

According to the same pixel/ratio analysis based on the size of a standard Michigan license plate, the estimates put this new electric pickup to be about 73 inches wide with a 62-inch track width. These estimates match the width of the current Ford Maverick, non-Raptor Ford Ranger, and the new Toyota RAV4.
Please remember that these are just estimates that are based on images of a camouflaged prototype. Still, these estimates are believable and interesting.
Ford’s new UEV pickup truck has compact dimensions and a low stance. If it aims to be a useful small pickup truck, we will judge it by its payload and towing capacity. Will these numbers be closer to a Ford Maverick or a Ford Ranger? We will have to wait to find out.
