We get the best look yet at what appears to be the 2021 Ram Rebel TRX off-road prototype from the recent spy images of the truck driving around the Detroit area.

There are several items that immediately jump out. The prototype has a lifted suspension and a wide track.

Hubs & Axles

Another wild detail are the mismatched front/rear wheel hubs and/or axles. The front is using what appears to be 2019 Ram 1500 6-lug hubs, while the rear is using heavy duty 8-lug hubs. Why use different hubs or axles? Will a production version of the TRX use this? We do not know. This may just be for the test mule to test the strength of different hubs and axles.

Could the Rebel TRX be a combination of half-ton and heavy duty components? The only official indication we have about the upcoming production Ram TRX is that it will likely make a debut as a 2021 model.

Since, we do not have many other official details from Ram, we have to make a lot of educated guesses.

Under the Hood

Will the Ram TRX use a version of the 6.2L supercharged HEMI V8 engine, aka. the 707 horsepower Hellcat? All signs point to yes. The fact that this prototype is tall, wide, and uses a prototype dual exhaust system and 8-lug hubs – all point to a lot of power under the hood. Will it be a full 707 horsepower? We do not know this for sure. The total horsepower level may be lower, and the emphasis may be placed on the low-end torque.

Chassis & Cab

The latest prototype appears to use the new 2019 Ram 1500 cab and bed. What frame and chassis is it riding on? Could it be a heavy duty (Ram HD) frame underneath? It’s not clear from the latest images.
