Have you noticed a recent downward trend in diesel fuel prices? All fuels are still relatively cheap, but the cost of diesel is continuing to go lower.
For example, the ultra low-sulfur diesel cost $2.479 per gallon at a local Thornton, Colorado station (on April 30th, 2015). While the 87 octane gasoline registered at a higher $2.539 per gallon. It was just several weeks ago that diesel fuel cost $0.50 or $0.60 more than the mid-grade gasoline.
The US average price of diesel is still higher than that of gasoline. US Energy Information Administration (EIA) says that US average diesel price was $2.811 as of April 27, 2015. The average gasoline was calculated at $2.570 as of the same date.
If you dig a bit deeper into the EIA recorded data, you can see that the last time diesel average price was lower than that of regular gasoline was August 10th, 2009, and only for a very brief period. That was nearly six years ago!
Perhaps, this is a very good time to get more turbo-diesel trucks into the market?
The 2016 Nissan Titan is coming at the end of the calendar year with the 5.0L V8 Cummins turbo-diesel.
Another upcoming diesel truck is the 2016 Chevy Colorado with the 2.8L I4 Duramax turbo-diesel.
