The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and the 2015 GMC Canyon will resemble their larger Silverado and Sierra counterparts. At least the silhouette looks like a 7/8th scale representation of the full sized brethren. What you’re seeing here is just a glimpse of the video images we caught recently of both trucks. We were insanely lucky and spotted a few overseas’ built Colorado/Canyon trucks buzzing about wearing bits of camouflage. Giving chase, we followed the test mule to Chevrolet’s lair (a central, hidden location) where we found various versions of the Chevrolet Colorado. There were versions of the Colorado like the Colorado7 (Australian) and Trailblazer (Brazil) among others.
Then we saw the heavily camouflaged trucks that had both extra-cab and crew-cab configurations. Squared off, beefy looking noses and the overall shape had more than a minor aesthetic similarity to the full-size Chevrolet Silverado 1500. We got video, still photos and a pretty good idea at what General Motors has up its sleeve.
As we continued to plunder the site, we could clearly see support vehicles testing various fuels via a large chase truck with several fueling tanks in the bed.
We can only speculate what fuels were in those tanks, but it could be surmised that they were interested in testing more than one type. If that is the case: perhaps one was diesel. Well, it’s a popular rumor and, given Dodge and Nissan’s recent diesel adaptations – why not?
There are a few prevalent rumors regarding engines for the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon. GM’s normally aspirated 3.6-liter V6 and, possibly, the turbocharged 2-liter, four-cylinder Cadillac engine, might find their way under the Colorado/Canyon’s hood. Why not a small V8? I mean, these trucks look big enough to hold one.
The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and 2015 GMC Canyon will begin production early in 2014 at General Motors’ Missouri plant.
