This is what happens when very big trucks come to play! We have purchased this 1992 M35A3 bobbed deuce and half military truck “General Giant (GG)” several months ago. It came from Boyce Equipment. We really want to compare it to somethings its own size. The only place to go is Couch Off-road Engineering and use Jay’s tank traps and proving grounds to exercise these trucks. Let’s dig in!
Jay Couch has a huge selection of off-road vehicles, but we focus on one particular 1986 Mercedes-Benz Unimog 4×4. His name is “Klaus”. It matches up closely to GG. Klaus is just a little shorter and narrower than GG. They weigh about the same, they have similar size tires. They have low-range and locking differentials. Both of these trucks have low-power but high-torque straight-six turbo-diesel engines.
To see how they compare we go the Couch off-road proving grounds. There is bottomless sand. There is a rock garden. The tank trap area has a frame twister section. The rest of the tank trap area is a labyrinth of giant 10-12 foot trenches and hills.
Check out the video below for all of the big truck fun! Which insanely capable truck are you rooting for?
