Is the newly redesigned 2025 Lincoln Navigator the best new full-size luxury SUV? Let’s take it for a first drive and find out. How new is this Navigator? Let’s try out the new massaging seats, all of the latest trailer towing technologies, and the hands-free highway driving feature.
The size of the new 2025 Navigator remains about the same as before. It’s a good thing, because it was already one of the largest and most cavernous luxury SUVs of all. For reference, the new Cadillac Escalade wheelbase is 120.9 inches long. The Navigator wheelbase is 122.5 inches long. Naturally, you can also get a Navigator L, an even longer SUV that competes against the Escalade ESV (the Chevy Suburban’s counterpart).
The Lincoln Navigator needs to nail the following aspects in order to be the king of large luxurious SUVs. It has to have presence, power, comfort, available high-tech features, and versatility.
Presense

Opinions on style are subjective, but this new Navigator has it. Specifically this top of the line Black Label Special Edition in Sunrise Copper exterior color. You will be noticed when you pull up to or pull away from your next destination. This Lincoln is rolling on 24-inch wheels. Lincoln had to redesign the suspension geometry and its components in order to support these large and heavy wheel/tire assemblies. These several exterior and interior design themes that are distinct and attractive.
Power
This new Navigator’s powertrain remains mostly the same. I call it the Raptor engine. It’s a high-output 3.5L EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 with 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. The power rating is the same as before, but the engine has been tuned for the latest emissions requirements. It’s mated to a smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission.
There is no V8 option and there is no hybrid/electric version either. While the high-output twin-turbo V6 is good, the next generation of this luxurious SUV needs a more exotic power plant. One may be coming, but this is the only power choice for now.
Comfort
The 2025 Navigator has a thoroughly updated interior and it is very comfortable and luxurious. There are available heated, cooled, and massaging seats for the first and second row passengers. The different design themes are pleasing to the eye and the body. There is a new rejuvenate mode that approximates being at the spa. The third row seats are also comfortable and offer ample room and amenities.
The ride is good, but it could be better over some rough pavement. The new Navigator has hustle around corners with confidence. This is great. However, I expected it to have a very smooth and luxurious ride when not in sport mode. It’s good, but it can be better. The vehicle has a better and more comfortable ride is the new 2025 Lexus LX700h.
High-tech Features
The Navigator delivers in this department. It has nearly every modern convenience, including the latest generation of Ford’s Blue Cruise hands-free driver assistance system. I tried it out north of San Diego, and I can tell it’s an improved system. Does it beat the latest GM Super Cruise system? No quiet, but it is good and useful.
Versatility
This Navigator’s coolest feature is the rear split tailgate/hatch. It offers a place to sit. It offers a little shelter from the sun and the wind. It’s great to carrying groceries, bags, or cargo. The third row offers a 40/20/40 split. You can load your skis with ease. The new Navigator lineup is rated to tow up to 8,700 lbs and up to 7,000 lbs without a weight distribution hitch. It offers trailer hitch assist and trailer backup assist. These are great numbers and capability. It’s not an off-roader, but it has several off-road modes with a 4LO transfer case.
All this can be yours in the price range between $102,000 and $128,000. Take a look at the video below for first drive impressions, a towing demo, and much more!
