Report: Ram Will Reboot V8 Production (Including the Supercharged Hellcat Engine) This August?

Could this really be true?

According to a report by our friends at the Mopar Insider, the engine HEMI V8 engine lineup and the supercharged HELLCAT V8 are all coming back to Ram and Dodge vehicles soon. In fact, Mopar Insiders reports that this V8 engine production will begin at the Dundee, Michigan engine plant as soon as this August 2025. Whoa! Let’s dig in!

First up, this is still an unofficial report. Mopar Insiders have some reliable sources, but this report is not yet officially confirmed by Stellantis North America. In fact, if you go to the company’s Dundee Engine Plant page, it has no mention of any V8 engines being produced there. This plant has produced a variety of engines before, including the 2.4L Tigershark I4 and the 3.6L Pentastar V6.

This engine plant page was last updated in September 2024, and it says the large 1.3 million square feet facility is currently slated to produces several components for the STLA Frame electric / hybrid trucks (battery trays and front/rear chassis beams). STLA Frame chassis will underpin the Ram 1500 Ramcharger and Ram REV pickup trucks.

It’s noteworthy that Ram’s and Dodge’s V8 engines used to be produced in Saltillo, Mexico. This report says that this engine production is moving to the USA in Michigan.

The report says that an entire lineup of gasoline V8 engines is slated to restart production. This includes the 5.7L V8, the 6.4L (392) Apache performance V8, the 6.2L supercharged HELLCAT V8, and a yet to be announced larger displacement V8. Whoa! We assume the “larger displacement V8” may be slated for Ram’s heavy-duty pickup truck lineup. However, we have no official information about this right now.

We imagine that these engines will still be mated to a lineup of 8-speed ZF automatic transmissions, just like they used to be before. We do not have any information about the power outputs for these engines. We hope that these engine designs will be updated to resolve common “known” issues, including the “HEMI tick”. We hope the 5.7L V8 returns with at least 400 horsepower, the 6.4L V8 returns with at least 470 hp, and the HELLCAT V8 returns with at least 720 HP!

UPDATED: Mar 25, 2025.

We received a comment from an official Stellantis representative. It says, “We’ve been building the 6.4-liter HEMI for the Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 at our Saltillo Engine Plant for a number of years. Anything else is speculation.

Stellantis refers to this report as speculation. We will have to wait another several months and see if anything comes of this.
