Which Pickup Trucks Will See the Highest Price Increases Due to the Canada & Mexico Tariffs? Take a Look!

Take a Look at the American Made Index.

Which are the least and most American made pickup trucks right now? Here is the latest list, which may surprise you. This should give you some idea as to which pickups will have the highest price increases.

The newly proposed 25% tariffs on products from Mexico and Canada directly affect the automotive industry and the most popular vehicles that we buy here in the United States. This will affect all of us who buy or service brand new and used pickup trucks. The higher prices that the manufacturers have to pay to import parts or vehicles will be transferred directly to us – the consumers.

Update: the Trump administration just announced the 25% tariff against products from Mexico will pause for 30 days. The 25% tariff against products from Canada and the 10% tariff of Chinese products take affect as planned on Feb 4, 2025.

The majority of this list comes from the Cars.com American Made Index. Cars.com has been maintaining this list over the last several years, but it does not cover all heavy duty or compact pickup trucks. We add some extra information here.

Let’s take a closer look at the following pickup trucks: Toyota Tacoma, Ram HD, the Ford F-150, Chevy Silverado 1500, and the Ford Maverick.

Let’s start with the Chevy Silverado 1500. Is it the least American made pickup on the Cars.com AMI list. This is one of the most popular vehicles sold in the United States.

  • Some Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup trucks are assembled in Silao, Mexico.
  • 37% of the parts come from United States and Canada, this includes the 5.3L V8 and the automatic transmission that are built in the United States.
  • 37% of the parts come from Mexico.
  • The other 26% of parts are undisclosed.

Let’s take a closer look at the Toyota Tacoma. The new Tacoma is built at two assembly plants in Mexico: Baja California and Guanajuato, Mexico. The 2.4L turbocharged engine is built at Toyota’s Huntsville, Alabama engine plant, but all Tacomas are assembled in Mexico.

What about the Ram HD pickup trucks? These have been assembled in Mexico for some time, but the 6.7L Cummins turbo-diesel is made in Columbus, Indiana. The new ZF 8-speed PowerLine transmission is built as the Gray Court, South Carolina facility.

How about the Ford F-150? The F-series is the most popular vehicle in the country. All Ford F-150 trucks are assembled in the United States, but it does not mean that the truck is exempt from all tariffs and price increases. The standard F-150 is number 58 out of 100 on the Cars.com AMI. The main powertrain components are built in the United States, but many small parts are from elsewhere.

Another popular pickup truck that is not on AMI list above is the popular Ford Maverick. The Maverick, Bronco Sport, and the Ford Escape are assembled at the Hermosillo, Mexico plant. However, the Maverick engines are made in Cleveland, Ohio and Valencia, Spain.
