Behold the new HD Jackal trucks from PaxPower! It’s a GMC Sierra HD AT4 off-road truck with a supercharged heavy-duty 6.6L gas V8 that now packs around 650 horsepower and 695 lb-ft of torque. How is this possible? The recipe turns out to be fairly simple. Let’s dig in!

Our friends at PaxPower are known to build many desirable pickup trucks and SUVs that large OEM simply will not make. Over the years, we have reviewed and tested several PaxPower supercharged V8 Ford F-150 Raptor trucks, a Ford F-150 Hybrid Raptor, a Chevy Silverado 1500 Jackal, and many more. Now, it’s time for a heavy-duty pickup truck.

This is a new GMC Sierra HD Jackal (you could choose to make it a Chevy Silverado HD Jackal as well). This is a Sierra HD AT4 that PaxPower updates and upgrades it to add lots of power and provide a smoother 4×4 ride.

The power increase comes thanks to a 3.0L Whipple supercharger. This is the same unit that they use on their GM 6.2L gas V8 engines. This supercharger mates nicely to the 6.6L gasoline V8 under the hood of this Sierra.

The factory 6.6L V8 rating is 401 hp @ 5,200 rpm and 464 lb-ft of torque @ 4,000 rpm. In 2024, GM mated this gasoline V8 engine to their latest heavy-duty 10-speed automatic transmission. This change from the older 6-speed automatic to the new 10-speed brought a small performance and efficiency increase to this truck lineup.

The Whipple supercharger takes the power to new heights. We cannot wait to try it out.

Suspension

PaxPower also updates the suspension with Mazzulla control arms up front and FOX 2.5 dampers. We have not driven this truck yet, but PaxPower tells us it rides “amazing”.

Some of the other updates include the exhaust system, bumpers, wheels, and tires. Will the additional power of the HD Jackal be enough to keep up with most new electrified trucks (such as the GMC Hummer EV)? The short answer is no, but that is not the point. A supercharged large displacement V8 truck like this should be fun to drive, and do work with. We do not yet know how the supercharged affects the payload and towing ratings of this HD pickup truck. However, it will pull heavy trailers and it’s easy and quick to refuel.
