There is a gas V8 under the hood.

Take a personal look at the new Ram Power Wagon concept truck that is coming to the SEMA 2024 show in Las Vegas, NV next week. This is our first exclusive look at this Mopar concept vehicle and the upcoming 2025 Ram HD lineup of trucks. This Power Wagon concept is rolling on 35-inch all-terrain tires and it has a 6.4L HEMI V8 under its hood. Does it mean that the updated 2025 Ram heavy-duty pickup truck lineup will continue to have a gas V8? We do not this for sure yet. This is just a SEMA concept. However, I expect the Ram heavy-duty trucks to retain the large gasoline V8 and the Cummins turbo-diesel engines.

Looking closer at this truck, it appears to have the wheelbase, cab, and bed that are identical to the current 2024 Ram HDs. We will have to wait and see, but it does not look like Ram is changing the size or the design of the cab or the bed. This concept truck is rolling on 20-inch wheels that are wrapped in 35-inch tires. Since it is an off-road focused truck, I expect the production version to go with a 17-inch or a 18-inch wheel (not a 20-inch).

In the rear, this concept is equipped with a Leitner rack, storage boxes, and a bed slide. Notice the orange accents throughout the exterior and the interior. Mopar and Ram call this color “header orange”. This may hint at a production theme for Ram HD off-road models.

Although, we heard the 6.4L Hemi V8 engine fire up under the hood of this concept truck, Mopar did not specify any power specs. The current version of the gas V8 is rated at 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. It is currently mated to an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. If Ram wants to closer compete against Ford and GM, they may need to increase the torque rating on this engine. We also expect the upcoming Cummins diesel engines to use a version of the 8-speed ZF automatic.

Ram should also consider raising the payload ratings of the upcoming Ram HD trucks. This will likely require them to raise the GVWR above 10,000 lbs for some of there Ram 2500 models. Ford and GM did this several years ago.
