Take a look at the world debut of the 2025 Nissan Armada Pro-4X off-road edition and the new Armada lineup! Nissan’s full-size truck-based SUV gets a thorough redesign. There is no more V8. It’s powered by a new 3.5L twin-turbo V6. We get the first ever Pro-4X off-road model. Let’s dig into all the details!
We have been asking for this for years, and Nissan listened. The Nissan Armada always got respect and praise from its owners, but it was lacking serious off-road capability. Not anymore. The new Armada is more inline with the Nissan Patrol SUV that is available in other parts of the world. It means the new Armada Pro-4X has some meaningful off-road gear and we cannot wait to put it to the test in the real world.
Under the hood of the new Armada is one powertrain. It’s a new 3.5L twin-turbo “VR35DDTT” V6 that produces 425 horsepower @ 5,600 rpm and 516 lb-ft of torque @ 3,600 rpm on regular 87-octane fuel. The engine is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. There will be 2WD and 4WD versions of the Armada, and they all get a body-on-frame design with an independent rear suspension (IRS) and a 3.357-to-1 rear axle ratio. The Pro-4X has a selectable rear locking differential.
The four-wheel-drive system offers: Auto AWD, 4HI, or 4LO settings. It is basically a full-time 4WD system that works as a Auto AWD system under normal conditions, but it can also be switched into 4HI or 4LO settings for more serious off-road driving.
Side note: If Nissan did not cancel and discontinue the Titan pickup truck lineup – this new twin-turbo engine would have been in the truck as well. This is according to me (not Nissan).
The styling is new inside and out, but the wheelbase and the overall size of the Armada remain about the same. The Armada still rolls on a 121.1-inch wheelbase. This is 0.2 inches longer than the Chevy Tahoe wheelbase. Naturally, all Armada comparisons must be made against the class best-sellers – Chevrolet Tahoe / GMC Yukon.
The new 2025 Armada is rated to tow up to 8,500 lbs, and it offers a built-in trailer brake controller. The new Armada has a 23.6 gallon fuel tank, which is a bit smaller than the 26 gallon tank it had before. We do not have EPA fuel economy ratings yet, but we would expect the new Armada to be a little more efficient than the outgoing 5.6L V8. Hence, it should have similar driving range as before.
The new 2025 Armada lineup will include: SV, SL, Platinum, Pro-4X, and Platinum Reserve trim levels. Nissan did not announce 2025 Armada pricing yet. The outgoing 2024 Armada SV 2WD has a $58,380 starting price after destination charges. We hope that Nissan will hold the price close to where it was before. The 2024 Armada SUV is one of the most affordable in the segment.
2025 will be the year of the full-size three-row truck-based SUVs! Why? Well… Almost all big SUVs are being refreshed or redesigned for 2025.
