It appears that Ford is requiring customers of 2024 Ford Ranger pickup truck (that are not Ranger Raptors) to install a bed reinforcement kit if they want to carry a truck rack, a truck topper, or a truck camper shell on top. Here are all the details. Let’s dig in.
Once again, this does not include 2024 Ranger Raptor customers. All other 2024 Ford Ranger pickup trucks are required to use bed reinforcement brackets in order to carry weight of over 88 pounds on top of the bed rails. Here is what these brackets looks like and how much they cost.
These two brackets cost $169.00 (before taxes, shipping or installation charges). As of this writing (Aug 12, 2024) – this reinforcement brackets are “Sold Out“.
We do not have an exact installation procedure, but it appears the job is not very difficult. It may require removing the rear wheels and inner fender liners to gain access to the underside of the bed. Bold the brackets on, and reinstall the liners and wheels.
We own a 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor as one of our long-term test vehicles. We recently installed a new 2024 GFC Pro V2 camper on the back of our Ranger Raptor. We took the truck with the GFC camper on a rough Kington Peak trail in Colorado that is rated 6 out of 10 by onX Offroad. This included long distance driving on washboard dirt road and over rock outcroppings. The truck bed and camper were solid. We heard no squeaks or rattles.
The Ranger Raptor comes with the additional bed reinforcement. The question is – why doesn’t Ford add this reinforcement to all new Ranger pickup trucks?
