Listen to This! Ford is giving the new 2024 Ford Raptor and 2023/2024 Ford Bronco Raptor a huge factory certified horsepower and torque increase as a dealer-installed tune. If you choose this Ford Performance accessory. The 3.0L high-output EcoBoost V6 gets a bump up to 455 horsepower and 536 lb-ft of torque! This is a silly amount of power for a midsize pickup truck. We do not consider a much more expensive all-electric Rivian R1T as being in the same category. We have so many questions! Let’s dig into the details.
First up, this Ford Performance tune costs $825 plus dealership installation. Considering that a Ford dealer needs to plan for a half hour to one hour of labor for this – the result may cost you close to $1,000 out the door. Still, this is a good deal considering that your Ranger Raptor is getting a 12+% power increase and a 24+% torque increase.
The Ranger Raptor and Bronco Raptor now have the same power output. The new high performance calibrations carry Ford’s 3-year / 36,000 miles powertrain warranty.
We have many questions…
- This is a big power bump that does not require any hardware changes or upgrades. Ford left that much power on the table when they released these performance trucks not so long ago?
- How much boost are the turbochargers seeing to get to this new power level?
- What does this power increase do to every day efficiency?
- What does it mean for other performance trucks and SUVs from Ford? Can they get more power soon as well?
- Will competitors (GM and/or Toyota) respond? The most powerful new Toyota Tacoma makes 326 hp. The most powerful GM midsize pickup truck makes 310 horsepower, the same as the new 2025 Nissan Frontier.
- Will other new Ford Ranger or Bronco (non-Raptor) power plants get a Ford Performance tune as well?
This announcement is more significant because it may mean more power for the 2025 Ford F-150 Raptor with its 3.5L EcoBoost high-output V6 engine. This is just speculation at this time, but we have to keep in mind that the 2025 Ram 1500 RHO with its 540 horsepower 3.0L twin-turbo Hurricane I6 is going on sale within the next 2-3 months. The current 2024 F-150 Raptor is producing 450 horsepower.
If the F-150 Raptor could get the same technology transfer as the Ranger Raptor – the upgraded 3.5L twin-turbo V6 could produce over 505 horsepower.
By the way…
Ford factory tuned 2024+ Ranger Raptor (455 hp) will have more horsepower than these…
- 2025 GMC Yukon 6.2L V8 / 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 (420 hp)
- 2025 Lincoln Navigator 3.5L TT V6 (440 hp)
- 2025 Toyota Tundra 3.4L TT V6 Hybrid (437 hp)
- 2024 Ford F-150 3.5L TT V6 Hybrid (430 hp)
- 2025 Ram 1500 3.0L TT I6 standard (420 hp)
- 2024 Ford F-150 Raptor 3.5L TT V6 (450 hp)
