The wait is officially over – the updated 2025 Ram 1500 pickup truck lineup is here. The truck gets updated styling, a new trim level, and a three-prong powertrain approach. The 5.7L HEMI V8 is officially gone and replaced by two turbocharged straight-six engines. The 3.6L Pentastar V6 is still here in more ways than one. The battery-electric Ram REV promises 654 total horsepower. The Ram 1500 Ramcharger range-extender electric pickup truck has a total driving range of up to 690 miles. Here are all the details.
2025 Ram 1500
The exterior styling does not change much from before for the ICE-powered versions of the new Ram 1500. The narrow headlamps now adorn all trim levels of the new pickup. The trim lineup remains largely the same: Tradesman, Big Horn, Laramie, Rebel, and Limited. A new top-of-the-line Tungsten trim level is here. Ram’s CEO – Tim Kuniskis – also promises a new Ram 1500 Warlock off-road model, a currently mysterious RHO model, and even the next TRX.
Here is a quote from the CEO, “[we offer] a multi-segment solution for sport trucks, with Warlock and Rebel today, the new RHO, and maybe even someday a new TRX.“
You might be asking. What is the RHO? We do not know yet, but Ram says a Ram RHO is coming in Q3 of 2024. We do not know when the Ram TRX may return or what will power it. If I had to guess, the RHO may be a ‘Rebel High Output’ off-road pickup or a ‘Road High Output’ street performance version of the truck. This is just my guess. Please let me know what the RHO may be.
ICE Powertrains
The internal combustion engine options are as follows.
Power | Torque | |
3.6L V6 eTorque | approx. 305 hp | approx. 271 lb-ft |
3.0L TT I6 S.O. | 420 hp | 469 lb-ft |
3.0L TT I6 H.O. | 540 hp | 521 lb-ft |
The base engine is still the Pentastar V6. There is a Standard Output 3.0L twin-turbo Inline-6 “Hurricane” engine. It makes more power than the outgoing 5.7L HEMI V8 (395 hp / 410 lb-ft of torque). The High Output version of the Hurricane produces 90 horsepower more than a 3.5L H.O. EcoBoost V6 in the Ford F-150 Raptor.
The 2025 Ram 1500 ICE trucks are rated at a maximum payload of 2,300 lbs and a maximum towing rating of 11,580 lbs. These numbers are competitive but are not class-leading.
We will have to drive the new truck and compare it to the Ford F-150 and GM 1500 lineup of powertrains as soon as possible. The standard output versions of the 2025 Ram 1500 trucks will go on sale in early 2024. The high-output engine will be available a little later. Pricing is not available yet.
Ram 1500 REV
Ram REV battery-electric pickup truck will join the lineup in late 2024, as Ram promised originally. When equipped with an optional battery, the new Ram REV is claimed to accelerate 0-60 MPH in 4.4 seconds with the help of its two electric motors (250 kW output in the front and 250 kW output in the rear).
The Ram REV is listed to have a maximum payload capacity of 2,700 lbs and a maximum towing capacity of 14,000 lbs. These are currently class-leading numbers.
Here are the two available Ram 1500 REV versions.
Standard Battery | Large Battery | |
Battery Capacity | 168 kWh | 229 kWh |
Est. Driving Range | 350 miles | 500 miles |
The Ram REV’s standard and the large battery packs are larger than most of the current competitors. The 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning has a maximum battery capacity of 134 kWh. The new 2024 Chevy Silverado EV has a maximum estimated battery capacity of 212 kWh.
Once again, 2025 Ram 1500 REV prices are not available at this time.
2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger
What if you wanted to go further in your electric pickup truck? Ram presents the new Ramcharger range-extended model. This one uses a familiar 3.6L gasoline V6 as a generator (the engine is not providing power to the wheels). It’s backed up by a 28-gallon fuel tank in order to charge up the Ramcharger’s smallish 92 kWh battery. As a result, the total driving range is listed at a diesel-challenging 690 miles.
The total Ram Ramcharger power output is rated at 662 hp and 615 lb-ft of torque. The V6 generator is able to produce up to 130 kW of charging power. This is equivalent to about 174 horsepower. The truck is also equipped with a Level-3 DC fast charger with a capability of up to 145 kW. This DC fast-charge rate is slow in comparison to Ford, GM, and Rivian electric pickup trucks. However, none of the competitors are equipped with a range-extending generator.
The Ram Ramcharger is rated at a maximum payload of 2,625 lbs and 14,000 lbs of maximum towing. The other cool part is that the Ramcharger range-extended truck will be available in Tradesman, Big Horn, Laramie, Limited, and Tungsten trims.
The Ram 1500 Ramcharger will have up to 7.2 kW of export power from the bed-mounted outlets. The Ramcharger does not have a frunk because there is a V6 engine under there. The 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger will be available for sale in 2025.
