Ram releases a quick 9-second teaser video clip that stirs up many rumors of a new 2024 Ram 1500 Hurricane turbocharged pickup truck. Why turbocharged? Let’s dig in.
The clip shows a remote desert location with a cloud of dust and a whistling wind sound. Then a faint silhouette of a truck is beginning to emerge from the dust and the clip ends. The clip says that something new is coming on May 10th, 2023.
The biggest clue is the words that Ram uses to tease it. The video says “A new force is landing”. This is simply a guess, but “landing” may be a reference to a hurricane making landfall. The “Hurricane” is a code name for the new 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged I6 engine that Stellantis introduced last year in the Jeep Grand Wagoneer. A high-output version of the new engine is rated at 510 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque in the Wagoneer. If this is the case, it will be a very welcome addition to the Ram 1500 lineup. It’s a lot of power and torque. It may also mean the end of the 5.7L “Hemi” V8 engine, which would be sad news. Of course, none of this is official. This is all a guess at this time.
The video teaser shows a desert. Does it mean the new truck unveiling is a 2024 Ram 1500 Rebel or a 2024 Ram 1500 TRX? We will have to wait a little longer to find out.
